Handfasting Ceremony |
Handfasting Ceremony I
(The Ceremony Table is directly behind Officiant. On the Ceremony Table are the Handfasting Cords.)
(Officiant picks up Handfasting cords. A musical selection may play softly during the following:))
Officiant: These are the Handfasting Cords that will symbolically bind ___(Groom)_____ and ___(Bride)_____ together.
Officiant: Woven into this cord, imbued into its very fibers, are all the hopes of your new life together. May this cord draw your hands together in love; may the vows you have spoken never fade in your hearts. With the fashioning of this knot, I do tie all the desires, dreams, love, and happiness wished here in this place for your lives, for as long as you both shall live. As this knot is tied, so are your lives now bound.
(The volume of the music may be turned up as the Officiant binds Couple’s hands with the Handfasting Cords.)
Officiant: Remember now, as your hands are fasted, it is not the strength of this cord and knotwork that binds you together; they are merely symbols for your love. All things of the material world eventually return to the Earth, unlike the bond and the love your souls share, which is destined to ascend to the heavens.
(The music fades and stops.) |
